The 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards were presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina for 15 projects that were designed in South Carolina by local consulting engineering firms Feb. 9 at the Columbia Museum of Art.
The Palmetto Award, the project receiving the highest rank in the entire competition went to Wilbur Smith Associates for its project the Robert Edge Sr. Parkway in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Wilbur Smith worked with Horry County and the SCDOT to provide comprehensive engineering design services, roadway, bridge and drainage plans.
Wilbur Smith Associates headquartered in Columbia, SC, also won an Engineering Excellence Award and qualified to enter the national competition sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies.
ACEC-SC gave another special award, the Small Firm Award, which is given for the highest rated project submitted by a small firm, which has less than 30 employees. Triplett-King & Associates of Rock Hill, SC won the Small Firm Award and an Honor Award for its I-520 Palmetto Parkway Design-Build, Phase II project which is a controlled access four lane divided interstate roadway.
A total of 11 Engineering Excellence Awards were presented along with 4 honor awards.
