Two Seats on SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors are open in January

Seats held by Gene Dinkins, PE, PLS, and Theresa Hodge, PE, are up for appointment in January. Dinkins holds one of the two Registered Surveyor seats and has indicated he wishes to serve another five year term. Hodge has decided she does not want to serve another term on the Registration Board.

Anyone interested in serving on the Registration Board should indicate his or her interest by sending a letter with a resume to the SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies’ President, Ed Owens, PE, Box 11937, Columbia, SC 29211.

There are specific qualifications one must meet before appointment by the Governor to the board. State Law 40-22-10 (C) (1) “Each engineering member of the board must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of South Carolina, must be licensed in this State, must have been engaged in the practice of engineering in this State for at least 12 years, and must have been in responsible charge of important engineering work for at least five years. Responsible charge of engineering teaching may be construed as responsible charge of important engineering work.”

Requirement for the surveyor positions on the board have the same residence, practice, responsible charge as the engineer members. The surveyor must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of South Carolina, must be licensed in this State, must have been engaged in the practice of engineer in the state for at least 12 years and must have been in responsible charge of important surveying work for at least five years.

SCCESS reviews all applicants’ letters and resumes and then holds interviews with the top contenders.

The deadline for applications is September 14, 2015.
