ACEC-SC and Member Firms attended the South Carolina Alliance to Fix our Roads (SCFOR) Annual Meeting on Monday January 25, 2016 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Columbia, SC.
SCFOR is a non-partisan, nonprofit, statewide organization made up of business leaders, associations and chambers of commerce who believe that an efficient, effective and safe highway system is essential to South Carolina’s continued economic growth and social progress. ACEC-SC is a member of SCFOR.
The meeting was opened with an address from SCFOR Chair, and ACEC-SC Member, Eric Dickey, Davis & Floyd, welcoming attendees and giving them an overview of the day’s events. After hearing from the SCDOT and SCTIB, attendees heard from Senators Leatherman, Matthews, Hutto, Gregory, and Davis as well as House of Representatives Semirll, Henderson , and Ott. Each legislator talked about infrastructure funding and legislation. Some thought there would be a bill passed this year.
After lunch we heard from other states on passing infrastructure funding, Chambers of Commerce’s speak on the need and want for infrastructure funding. Ron Patton, Deputy Secretary for Intermodal Planning discussed Federal Highway funding, before the conference closed with an update on what SCFOR is doing to help get this funding.
SCFOR urged attendees to call their legislators and tell them we expect a road funding bill passed this year. Join the movement, and when using social media use hashtag #fixSCroads.
