Executive Director’s Report – November 3, 2017
News | November 6th, 2017
Good afternoon. I hope you all had a productive week and a happy Halloween. ACEC-SC has been working hard finalizing the ACEC-SC/SCDOT Annual Meeting, prepping for our monthly Board of Directors meeting, working on some national issues, as well as preparing for the second regular session of the 122nd South Carolina General Assembly.
ACEC-SC is continuing to monitor legislation effecting engineers in South Carolina. Not much has changed since last week, but we’ve heard there may be a hearing on H. 3649 before the end of the year. This legislation deals with determining when a Professional Engineer is needed in our Practice Act. It has been stuck in conference committee since last May. SCLLR and the Board of Registration sent Senator Davis, Conference Committee Chair, a letter regarding the Senate compromise language and stated it is the only language that the engineering community can accept. After seeing the letter was delivered, I resent the letter I wrote conferees in May to support the Board’s letter.
