The 18th Annual ACEC-SC/SCDOT Annual Meeting and Trade Show surpassed previous goals despite having to reschedule the meeting after the horrific October flooding.
Originally, the Annual Meeting and Trade Show was scheduled for Oct. 21, but the statewide flooding earlier in the month devastated many roads and bridges requiring SCDOT employees to work overtime. Also, numerous engineers and firms were busy volunteering and working on the aftermath of the natural disaster. So, the Annual Meeting was moved to Dec. 2. Luckily, the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center was available making the date change possible.
Moreover, the meeting drew a record number of sponsors and trade show exhibitors as well as above average participation by consulting engineers and SCDOT employees.
The Joint ACEC-SC/SCDOT Program Committee managed to keep many of the presentations scheduled for the earlier date and filled in with new presentations where needed thus offering one of the strongest series of programs.
Many thanks to planning committee members: Mark Anthony, Jeff Mulliken, Emily Swearingen, David Taylor and Melvin Williams.
SCDOT Secretary, Ms. Christy A. Hall and FHWA SC Division Administrator, Ms. Emily O. Lawton opened the morning sessions. The reports on SCDOT and FHWA were well received. Both discussed the future of federal funding for roads and bridges.
Ford Graham, Director of International Strategy and Trade for the SC Department of Commerce gave the keynote luncheon address. His presentation was enlightening and a break from the engineering topics that were offered during the other sessions. South Carolina is growing and the state’s infrastructure plays an integral role in that growth.
ACEC-SC launched its new ACEC-SC APP at the Annual Meeting. Attendees could go to the App for the meeting’s agenda, program locations and the list of sponsors and exhibitors. The App continues to keep ACEC-SC members and followers informed of the organization’s activities. Please visit your App store and down load the App.
