Past Chair Don Freeman, Chair Joe Greenburg and Executive Director Joe Jones were invited to meet with Sec. Janet Oakley July 9. Sec. Oakley said she had scheduled meetings with the leadership of a number of stakeholder organizations including Carolinas AGC.
The meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, covered a number of issues. Freeman and Greenburg told the secretary about the long, fruitful relationship between ACEC-SC and SCDOT through the Partnering Committee and the progress the ACEC-SC, CAGC, SCDOT Design/Build Committee had made.
Oakley said she was aware of the lobbying work ACEC-SC is involved in at the State House. She noted she was aware of the concerns the consulting industry had with recent contracts. However, all agreed some of the concerns were the result of a matter of timing and the need to secure the work due to Act 98 timelines.
Jones told her that he and ACEC-SC representatives met with SCDOT officials on procurement procedures in June. This meeting was an open discussion with possible changes being considered.
Freeman and Greenburg assured the Secretary ACEC-SC wants to assist the department where possible. They talked about two issues currently being discussed in the Partnering Committee: annual submissions of SF 330 and size of drawing submissions for DOT projects.
Jones invited Oakley to the next Partnering Committee and suggested she speak at the ACEC-SC/SCDOT Annual Meeting this fall.
