Good morning. I hope you are all off to a productive week. Tom Brady winning another Super Bowl may be a great sign that we are heading back towards “normal life.”
The holiday surge of COVID-19 appears to be behind us. Though we are still seeing positive cases of COVID-19 and people are continuing to lose their battle with the virus, the number of daily cases and percent positive rate is starting to decline to pre-holiday numbers. As of Monday, 2/8/2021, there are 26,761,047 total cases of COVID-19 in the US, and 460,582 have perished as a result of the virus. Here in South Carolina, 414,573 have tested positive for the virus, and 6,881 South Carolinians have passed away, one of whom was KCI Technologies’s Senior Vice President (Transportation Design-Build Manager), W. Merrit King, PE, DBIA. Merrit was always an advocate of ACEC-SC, a great member, and a terrific person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and firm. One thing to note, a vital number reported by SCHDEC is the 8.8% positive rate, which is a step in the right direction.
